Michael, it seems the Greeks (Aristotle also talks at length about the difference between a good man and a good citizen) never quite figured out how to reconcile contemplation (philosophy) with action (politics). There seems to be something of the tragic involved with the attempt (with the figure of Socrates and his fate hovering in the background). Do you think in principle they can be reconciled?
